Excuse me, waiter... but there's a roach in my soup
31st-Jul-2008 08:04 pm
Met up with piglyn in the city after work to catch up and headed to this Vietnamese place.

I ordered a spicy beef noodle soup.

And halfway through my meal...

A piece of fried onion looked really suspicious.

I poked it with a chopstick.

It had legs.

I found a cockroach.

... (O_O)

Thankfully it was one of those small brown ones, not the hugeass disgusting sewer ones that are as big as my thumb. But still...*

I drew the attention to the waitress, who immediately got the owner - who in turn took my bowl without another word and talked to the chef. 2 minutes later, he came out to apologise and that the meal would be free and would I like something else for dinner. I decided to go with whatever it was piglyn was having, since that seemed safe enough and I didn't want them to dreg up more roaches in the same pot of soup out back.

So we got 2.5 meals for free tonight. Woot?

* I know some people who won't abide by anything in their food, other than their food... I personally wouldn't give a shit if there was an ant floating in my food, but I draw the line on roaches and flies.

*LOL* I thankfully didn't feel nauseated - more like 'poke poke... there's a roach in my soup...'.

Thanks for the extra ingredient, but it was totally unnecessary. XD

that's bad hygiene for the restaurant!

But unfortunately you can't get rid of insects 100%. The buggers get everywhere.

I probably won't eat there again, thanks. So a 20% discount on all future meals would be entirely useless.

Oh my god gross! I'd be so sick if it were a big one! DXX EEEEEKKSSS! DX And good lord, it must be like, swimming in the soup and the soup must have absorbed all its 'nutrients'. Was your tummy strong and fighting off its germs? I've had my experience with crushed roaches/flies in my food. Argh. -pat pat-

The roach was pronounced dead on arrival, so I wasn't too worried, especially as it was a hot noodle soup. It would've been cooked and was just floating.

And my stomach is made of steeeeeeeeel! XD

although one time, they said that a frog jumped out of a gravy jug here... HAHA :)

Eeewww... I hope it wasn't a cane toad though. (0_0)

frogs and toads are two different species of animals... :p

oh wow?

>.> who knows what other "extra" ingredients went into their food >.> The thing is, it's extremely true you can only control pests to a certain extent, especially come summer where flies and other tiny vegie bugs are aplenty....

still... lol i would have thrown up. i dont mind anything but roaches.

roaches! bane of my life

I can throw up at will (though I prefer to keep food down), but it seemed like the roach got cooked in the process. Not much to worry about germs in that case. XD
