We bought way too many apples for the apple aux tarte I made last week.

The easiest way to get rid of them?
Cook'em into an apple roly-poly and eat it!

Unfortunately the casserole dish we got as a wedding present is great for huge pasta bakes and anything as large as a holiday ham, but not great when you don't have a rolling pin to flatten the dough.

Why is it so hard to find a decent rolling pin in Brisbane? We went to Myer and the only one they had there was AUD$60 (bloody ripoff). And Woolies' baking section didn't have them. I ended up using my palms to spread it out as much I could, before using a chopstick. Not the most ideal of appliances, but I was desperate.

But at least we got ourselves a slightly smaller casserole dish that would be great for a more modest lasagne. And apple roly-poly.

The recipe is the SO's maternal family secret and in marrying into the family, I was given the privilege of sharing in that secret. It's sort of fun having to swear the receipe to secrecy, but it means a lot to the SO's mum.

So maybe next time I'll make it for a picnic.

And it is! Yummy warm apples all lovingly wrapped in baked dough.

use wine bottle. as good as any rolling pin.

I would have, but we finished all we had and already recycled the empty ones. *sigh*
