Food Connect box

We've re-started our FoodConnect subscription of the mixed mini box for the next 4 weeks, so you get to see our weekly yum-yum surprise box!

So what have we got today?

  • Corn x 1
  • Shallots x 3
  • Ginger x 1
  • Potatoes x 6
  • Baby cos lettuce x 1
  • Mushrooms x 3
  • Sweet potatoes x 4
  • Tomato x 2
  • Zucchini x 1
  • Banana x 3
  • Apple x 6
  • Mango x 1

Unfortunately one of the tomatoes had a big split in it, so I'll have to use it soon, but yay for a mango! It should be ready eating soon and I can't wait. It's been awhile since we bought any.

I also ordered a loaf of organic rye sourdough and 1kg of raw honey.

There are probably a lot of people who are not used to the flavour of rye, but I picked up the taste for it while I was living in Finland. On a poor student budget that I usually ended up spending on bottles of vodka in the cold dark winter days, rye bread kept well and kept me feeling full longer due to its high fibre content. Sticking my nose in the paper bag the fresh loaf came in to smell the distinct whiff of the rye brought back some really warm memories.

Our usual large jar of honey from O'Reiley is running out, but I thought we might save ourselves the trip and try something different. The honey had a sticker 'bloodwood', which I'm assuming is a type of eucalypt that would've been in bloom and provided the nectar for the honey. It isn't too bad, though I like my honey darker and richer. This one will serve well for light breakfasts.
