Receiving a couchsurfing request usually falls into 2 categories for us: the easy 'no' decline (ie. we cannot host you) or the quick discussion between the SO and I if we wanna host the couchsurfer.
But Christian from Quebec's request was a debate. He did everything right with his request and sent a lovely message, but he also mentioned his 2 travel partners: his girlfriend and 7 month old baby.
Our very first concern was: is our home safe for a baby? All our furniture has sharp corners and there are cables everywhere. Would it be ok? We talked about this request more than any other, but decided to say 'yes' and it was the best couchsurfing decision we've made yet.
Christian and Isabel are such wonderful cheerful people, it's no wonder Claudius has turned out to be such a laid back baby. He smiles at strangers and happy to be picked up and played with. And he only becomes fussy if he's hungry. Within a couple hours of my making a special raspberry sound, he started copying me and would repeatedly learn how to pull himself up to stand, much to our delight.
At 7 months, Claudius is our youngest couchsurfer and certainly my favorite. (^___^)
