So it's Thursday and I've been shuttled from the Redlands Wildlife Rescue, to the ambulance crew, to Daisy Hill Koala Centre before anyone was able to tell me where Rusty is.
And for those who are familiar with this process, it would've been easier had the ambulance given us a reference number, but we weren't. Annoying as fuck. Seriously, the bouncing back and forth between all these people was pissing me off more than you'll ever know.
But I finally found Rusty! \(^0^)/
He's now recovering at the Australian Wildlife Hospital
at Australia Zoo
. Thankfully he only suffered soft tissue damage (ie. no broken bones), but as one of his eyes was ruptured, he had surgery yesterday to have it removed and will be looking at a long rehabilitation. Nevertheless I was assured he can still be released into his original territory and would be quite capable of leading a normal koala life.
Oh, and he's 6 years old, which makes him a young'un for the average 13-18 year koala lifespan.
We're allowed to call and check up on him in 1-2 weeks again for a progress report. And this time, I have a freakin' reference number, so no more nonsense being asked to call this or that organisation.
So to the asshole who hit Rusty, suck on that! He's alive and recovering, no thanks to you.Note: Speaking with Julie from Australian Wildlife Hospital, she commented that without a reference number, it was difficult to track which koala I was talking about as they received over 100 koalas to the hospital this month alone. But when I mentioned the name 'Rusty', she immediately went "Oh! I know Rusty! Gimme a minute".
The people who run this hospital are awesome, so please donate if you can, so they can continue their good work caring for injured wildlife like Rusty.
